FIRE RESEARCH FACILITY & FIRE TRAINING CENTRE

University of Waterloo and Region of Waterloo, Waterloo, ON

Joint Venture with Thomas Brown Architects for two fire and emergency buildings sharing a site. The fire Training Tower is a seven storey structure housing burn rooms, smoke rooms and a Scott Challenger Stair. The administration building houses lecture rooms along with locker and change-room facilities. The Scope is a comprehensive process for needs assessment for training and research needs, and the infrastructure requirements.

Second building contains two independent testing laboratories; one for Mechanical Engineering and the other for Applied Health Sciences. The engineering portion uses state-of-the-art equipment to test properties and effects of large and small burnt objects. The science portion is for testing the effects of physical stress on fire fighters.
